What is Mentoring at Mercyview?
The Christian experience has never been an individual one. Instead, from the onset of the church, it is a community striving together to follow Jesus. There are many examples in the New Testament that speak to this reality. This is a way of life and heritage that is passed down through generations. We believe that there is an excellent opportunity for specific and disciplined growth in Christian life through mentoring relationships. It is evidence of spiritual life to acknowledge a need for help, and we believe mentoring is the path for providing this help.
At Mercyview, we desire to help believers grow into maturity by connecting young/newer believers with mentors to walk with them for a set amount of time working toward a particular aim in their own maturity. Mentors are men and women who have been walking with the Lord for a significant amount of time and show evidence of growth and maturity in their own walk. They have struggled against sin and overcame, they have a deep affection for Christ, and a desire to see others’ affection for Christ and holiness grow.
Our goal is to help individuals grow in maturity by being holistically conformed to the image of Christ (Eph 4:11-16). To accomplish this we will focus on both orthodoxy (right belief) and orthopraxy (right living/behavior). Each individual will need a unique approach to their mentoring journey, because each will be at a different place in their walk with the Lord. In conjunction with the deacons for discipleship, mentors and mentees will develop a focused approach for the mentee throughout the course of the mentorship process.
How Do I Get Started?
We have designed our mentoring process to begin every Spring and Fall and run for 16 consecutive weeks with each mentoring relationship striving meet 8-10 times during the semester. If you would like to participate in the Spring 2023 mentoring you can sign up here and we will be in contact with you.
We do ask that you only sign up if you are a partner or regularly attend Mercyview and would consider this to be your home church.
